(01) Vela One — pre-orders open, ships spring 2027

15.8kg The stairs just lost the argument.

A belt-driven city e-bike light enough to carry up four floors with a coffee in your other hand. Up to 90 km of range hidden inside the frame. Lights and lock built in, so the only accessory you need is somewhere to be.

(02) The numbers

Four numbers. No asterisks.

Measured with a real rider (78 kg), real hills and a very real Copenhagen headwind. The brochure numbers are the ride numbers.

01 — Weight
15.8kg

The whole bike — motor, battery, belt, lights. Typical city e-bike: 26 kg and a sore shoulder.

02 — Range
90km

In Eco, 75 kg rider, flat route. A week of commuting and one detour for pastries.

03 — Torque
42Nm

Silent, instant, from the rear hub. Hills don’t get easier. They just stop being your problem.

04 — Charge
3.5h

Empty to full from any wall socket. Empty to 80% before your lunch meeting wraps.

(03) Design

We left everything a city bike doesn’t need at the factory: the chain, the rattle, the battery bolted on like an afterthought, eleven kilos of just-in-case. What’s left is 15.8 kg of bike that goes 90 km.

Five parts

Meet the parts you’ll think about zero times a day.

Every component on Vela One was chosen to disappear: into the frame, into the hub, into your routine.

01 — Hub motor

A motor you only notice on hills.

A 250 W rear hub with 42 Nm, reading your pedalling 1,000 times a second through a torque sensor. At full assist it hums at 38 dB — quieter than the tram you’re overtaking.

02 — Hidden battery

540 Wh, hiding in plain sight.

Twenty-one cells live inside the down tube. Unlock it in the app, slide it out at the bottom bracket, charge it at your desk. From outside, it just looks like a slightly confident tube.

03 — Carbon belt

No chain. No oil. No stripe on your trousers.

A carbon-reinforced belt rated for 30,000 km, driving a 2-speed automatic hub that shifts itself at 16 km/h. The service schedule is: ignore it.

04 — Integrated lights

Seen from 400 metres, without the disco.

A 400-lumen headlight set into the head tube and a rear bar in the seat cluster, both run by an ambient sensor. When it gets dark, they come on. When you brake, the rear light tells everyone behind you.

05 — App lock

A bike that won’t ride for anyone else.

Walk away and the motor locks, the rear hub immobilises and the bike goes quiet. Move it without your phone and it chirps, then pings you its location. Walk back and it wakes up before you reach it.

(05) Range calculator

How far will you get?

Range isn’t one number. It’s a negotiation between your legs, your hills and how much you enjoy Boost. Move the sliders — we’ll be honest.

Eco assist, 78 kg, rolling terrain

That is the ride the estimate on the right is for. With scripts on, three sliders (assist level, rider and cargo weight, terrain) change it live.

Estimates at 18 °C, tyres at 4 bar, wind politely absent. Winter takes about 20% off; we’ll remind you in November.

(06) Configure

Make it yours. Then make it slightly heavier, if you must.

Five frame colours, three add-ons, one honest price. Everything you pick shows up on the bike and on the bill, immediately.

(08) Early rides

Forty test rides. Some people wrote things down.

I carried it up to a fourth-floor flat without swearing once. For an e-bike, that’s a first. For me, frankly, too.
KERB Mette Lindqvist · Senior editor
The belt is so quiet I kept looking down to check it was still there. The best-behaved city bike I’ve ridden this year.
The Slow LaneJonas Ferreira
Finally, an e-bike that doesn’t look like it’s carrying a lunchbox under its arm. The battery simply isn’t there. Until it is.

FAQ

Questions we’d ask, too.

Still wondering? Our crew answers at hello@vela.bike, usually before your coffee cools.

Is the deposit really refundable?

Yes, all of it, any time before your bike ships. Tap “Cancel reservation” in your account and the €100 is back on your card within five working days. We don’t ask why.

When exactly will my bike arrive?

Deliveries run March to May 2027 in reservation order. We confirm your delivery week in January, and you can push it back if you’ll be away.

Can I honestly carry it up stairs?

At 15.8 kg, yes. There’s a small notch on the top tube that marks the balance point, so you can lift it one-handed without the front wheel swinging into the wall.

What happens when the battery runs out?

It becomes a very light two-speed bike. The hub has almost no drag unpowered, so it rides like a normal bicycle, and the lights keep a two-hour reserve so you’re never riding dark.

Who services it?

Every 5,000 km or once a year, at one of 60 partner workshops across the Nordics and Benelux, or by our mobile mechanics in Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Berlin. The app books it for you.

Where do you deliver?

Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France for wave one. More countries join in late 2027, and reservations there open this winter.
